Ko Samui

We got out first glimpse of Thailand this morning sailing in to Ko Samui

Started our day with Regent’s Champagne and Caviar breakfast. I don’t like caviar but I do enjoy me some champs

We will be doing the “Ancient Temples and Monkees” excursion in Ko Samui. These are working monkees so I do hope they are wearing bow ties.

Took a beautiful walk around the jogging deck. Sun was just starting to break through the clouds.

Pool is reopened after being closed all day yesterday with the high seas and deck chairs are back out.

Here are some pix from the top deck’s sports area. There are tennis courts, a golf putting area, croquet and shuffleboard. 7 laps around the jogging track is a mile.

From a distance, Ko Samui sure looks like it will be beautiful!

Dinner with Versace

The House of Versace makes exclusive china for Regent. The older ships, the Navigator, Mariner and Voyager (which I’m on now) have blue colors

The newer ships, the Explorer and soon to have its inaugural season, the Splendor, have beige. I took these pix last year when I was on the Explorer

And some food porn of the meals we’ve had to date

Embarkation

We boarded the Regent Seven Seas Voyager around noon. Super easy check in. One of the many reasons I love Regent is there are never any lines. This ship holds about 700 people so it’s very small compared to the main stream lines. We were greeted with champagne and went up to the pool deck for lunch.

Our rooms were ready within the hour. We are in a Penthouse Suite A and it’s very nice and includes a butler who we haven’t met yet. But a bottle of champagne and petit fours awaited us.

The room comes with this cute little teddy bear and kit of emergency supplies like Shout, hand sanitizer and ear plugs.

Personalized stationery is another nice little touch

We have a nice little balcony

There is also a pillow menu and I hope to try every kind of pillow to find a favorite. They all sound nice!

The bathroom carries Guerlain and L’Occitane amenities including a separate men’s kit with shaving lotion and male scented lotions.

And this is our itinerary for the cruise. All places I’ve never been before.

Food Glorious Food

After going to bed at 7pm we finally woke up at 7am. My first sleep after a long day of travel is always my favorite. It’s like you took a gallon of NyQuil without the NyQuil hangover. Well rested, it was time to fuel up for the day ahead. The Fairmont has an amazing brunch with some things I’ve never seen before like Charcoal Bread.

Time Traveling Is Exhausting

We checked in to the Fairmont Singapore yesterday afternoon. Our room was ready which was a huge Yahtzee because I wanted nothing more than a shower after 20 hours of flying and time traveling. I’m still not sure what happened to Wednesday but we left Tuesday night and arrived Thursday. The Fairmont is a beautiful hotel and it’s already decorated for Christmas. Christmas feels weird to me in hot and humid environments but it’s very pretty.

There is also a blissfully serene pool area

And the art around this hotel is beautiful and whimsical. You could spend a whole day just looking at the artwork

The view from our balcony is of the Raffles Hotel. The Singapore Sling was invented there.

When A Twelve+ Hour Flight Isn’t Long Enough

I flew an Airbus 380 from NY to Dubai. It’s a double decker plane and business and first class board directly from the lounge.

A new first for me was they didn’t take my ticket boarding the airline. Instead you looked into what I assume was a camera or some kind of scanner. You can kind of see in this pix. No idea how they know who you are from this but literally no one took a ticket and no one took my picture prior to this pix at boarding. They boarded the same way in coach. I’m really curious about this and will ask about it if we board the same way in Dubai.

I was in a single seat on the left hand side of the plane. The TV screen was huge!

You’re also given a tablet so I watched movies on the big screen and kept my flight info running on the tablet.

They give you a travel kit with Bulgari amenities. Really nice. And socks and an eye mask.

You have a personal mini bar at your seat

When it’s time to sleep, the seat fully reclines and they give you a mattress to make your seat more comfortable. With an 11pm flight, I was out cold by midnight.

I slept through dinner but the menu is below:

At nighttime the ceiling becomes a starry sky

I woke up about 4 hours later. Most of the plane was still asleep so I took advantage of the quiet to do a photo shoot at the bar/lounge 🤪

You can get pretty much any drink you want, including mocktails at the bar along with snacks, sandwiches, and hot meals. Menu below:

The entertainment system is pretty cool. It has a vast amount of movies and tv shows but also audio books and even descriptive movies for the hearing impaired. I woke up to a Veuve mimosa caddy and I did get the frittata for breakfast. It was very good, especially for airplane food.

12 plus hours later I landed, well rested and belly full. I have a 4 hour layover and the Emirates lounge in Dubai warrants its own post so more soon!

Layover In Style

Emirates Airline is based in Dubai so I expected their lounge to be off the hook and it did not disappoint. This is a map of just some of the amenities After sitting for so long on the plane, we decided to explore. While wandering we stumbled upon this adorable ice cream truck My new best friend, Enrico, insisted on making us Affogato (ice cream and espresso. If Enrico insists! in talking to Enrico, I found out he was from Myanmar. I said, “it’ll always be Burma to me!” Which is a Kramer quote from Seinfeld that I’ve waited my whole life to use. Mission accomplished!

I slept great on the plane and am not tired at all (especially after the aforementioned ice cream and espresso) but there are nice sleeping lounges here and it’s VERY quiet. Dubai is a “silent airport” and apparently they frown upon you sleeping on the floor. You can also take a nice, hot shower

And have more champagne

The four hour layover flew by just exploring and I got over 10,000 steps! That’s how big this lounge is.

And just like that, we’re ready to board again. More from Singapore…

Lounge Lizard

I registered the name “The Suitcase Whisperer” many moons ago but kept just posting on Facebook. This trip, I finally decided to blog. So here we go!

This trip will be my first time in Asia. We begin in Singapore but to get to Singapore we have a layover in Dubai  JFK to Dubai is about at 12 hour flight  I’m currently sitting in the Emirates lounge  It’s really nice but my guess is it will pale in comparison to the lounge in Dubai – Emirates home port  Until then I will slum here with my feet up and belly full.  The food choices here are vast with a heavy emphasis on lamb and hummus with every drink you can imagine.  I had the creamy tomato soup with sage croutons, vegetarian lasagna, roasted potatoes and red wine  and the butteriest chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever had.
